Library &
Literacy
In 2012 A Is For Africa’s founder, Molly Smith, organized a trip to Tanzania with twelve women: sisters, mother, aunts, a cousin and friends. When asked how can we help, the teachers of Matim Primary School responded with “Please can you help us teach English?”

In 2014, 26 books were placed in a cabinet at the back of a classroom. (There was not a single storybook or any art supplies in the school.)

AIFA brought electricity to the school and used laptops were setup. Teachers were trained and they trained the children.

Today of all the primary schools in the Arusha district, Matim Primary School has one of the very few stand alone libraries and a computer lab.
Enjoy the history of literacy at Matim PS through photos.
